The Staircase and Balustrade

I had spent much time deliberating on how to complete this project. I wanted a sturdy staircase with strongly constructed Balustrade surrounding the mezzanine area supported in places to the roof joists for added strength. I have often seen Balustrade constructed from the kit form and have never been impressed with its strength and quality. Having three children charging around and not wanting to have any accidents was a major consideration.

I discussed the project with a carpenter friend I had made living in the area. He knew exactly what to do. I decided to pay him to complete the project (150 Euros a day) as being a professional I knew he could do a fast job and the quality would be excellent. Some jobs you leave to the professionals. The staircase was a ready made construction and purchased from a local DIY store. I took Ricks advice and purchased a ready made unit instead of a staircase in kit form. I understood the aggravation factor and although it was cheaper to buy the kit it would cost more in the long run taking into account Ricks daily rate. Rick also advised and we both agreed that the balustrade kits were expensive and no good for what I wanted. He bought all the wood to make the balustrade and would construct on site. This also saved a lot of money. Rick had his 4 by 4 and trailer. We picked up the staircase and wood and were back at the house by 11AM. By 5PM it was all up including the Balustrade. I only had to pay Rick for the one day and have an Excellent Staircase and Balustrade. A good choice I think to outsource this project.
