Stone built Property
Brittany is well known for its many beautifully constructed stone built properties. The Breton’s have a readily available resource, Granite. It is found everywhere within the region. As a consequence Granite has been used over the ages for most major construction projects, including castles, towns (i.e. St Malo) and churches. It has also been widely used for property construction. We British just love stone built properties and travel to Brittany not only to enjoy the beautifully rugged coastline, beaches, countryside and friendly inhabitants but also to purchase the endless selection of stone built houses, Longeres, chateaux’s and Manor Houses available. As a consequence there are now a large number of British property owners throughout the region.
Over recent times construction and building methods have changed. Newer block and brick construction methods are now commonplace and have largely replaced the original Granite used for property construction. The reason being that modern methods are found to be less labour intensive and faster than the old traditional construction methods.
